We are daily consumers. We devour food, entertainment, news, social media, drink, sugar, information, and then we are finally full for the day, but unfulfilled. We need to hit the pause button on consumption. Without a daily detox, we will feel totally depleted.
What we consume is also consuming us. What we are buying into is taking a part of us in exchange. Weird, but true. Think about what you give your time and resources to in exchange for being in a better mood, better informed, better dressed, better perceived. Does it last or is there a price to pay beyond the monetary cost, government tax and shipping fee?
What is pulling you away from your goals, your family, your dreams?
If we allow our possessions to possess us, we become less fulfilled.

Stop consuming long enough to notice, really reflect on the habits that have made themselves at home in your life, your body and your mind. Did you really choose them all, or are they being chosen for you by clever marketing strategies designed to persuade and entice you or distract you for a fee. Maybe it is only $9.99 a month, but how much time are you spending? What else could you be doing? We are so entrenched in consumer life, that we stopped creating.
What are you currently in the act of creating?
Of course, we need rest, we deserve to relax, we desire entertainment. It’s just that our entertainment (social media and consumerism) is making us dull, depressed and devoid of creativity.
Our addictions have become more important than what actually makes human beings happy and fulfilled. There are three main things we need to be happy, healthy humans:
- Creative Challenges
- Spirituality
- Relationships
Stuff can never replace our time, our health, or our relationships, but we often sacrifice those things to get more stuff. It ends up costing us personally and environmentally.

The solution: This very moment deserves your full attention. No matter how small, how difficult, how dull, begin to see the miracle in the moment, slow down and taste your life. Savor it, appreciate each breathe, look at the sky, the moon, smallest blade of grass, the freckles on your arm, the hilarious noises your dog makes, the glimmer in the eyes of your loved ones, the hopelessness on the faces you see everyday. Notice what happens in the quiet moments, listen.
We are only temporary guests here. Our mission on this Earth is not to be corporate slaves. There is work to do, but don’t let a corporation define you or your mission. We don’t need souvenirs, we need connections. When it’s all over, today or tomorrow for some of us…we never know. What will you miss? Who will miss you? Hint…it won’t be the corporation.
Detox from the disease of consumerism, or from whatever it is that has been eating you alive. Detox from unhealthy substances, relationships, media. The empty space will feel strange, uncertain, and perhaps lonely.
It won’t stay empty, as the next things swoops in to try to take its place. Don’t let it. Be still in the space a moment. Notice your breathing, your heartbeat, your thought. Let that thought pass, and choose again to be still. You are safe, cradled in this moment by your creator.
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
Psalm 51:10
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Whatever has been consuming you, let it go. Be in the moment, and stop struggling to gain, stop fighting, just rest. Maybe rest is what you have really been after. Maybe it is the space to breathe, to stretch out your legs, to let go of perfection, to feel your heartbeat. We are all connected in the miracle of life. We are made from dust, and will return to dust, and yet we are more precious than the stars.
14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.”Psalm 139:14New International Version
Are you exhausted? Rest.

Exodus 14:14English Standard Version
14 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
Rest in the moment, in silence let the cares of your heart speak. Now do the thing we rarely do…be still and listen.
💗Wishing you Amazing Love & Quiet Comfort
